Traditionally, all personnel working on the road or within the road reserve have been required to undergo appropriate TC and / or STMS Training. In addition to these qualifications, NZQA in association with NZTA (Formerly Transit) have brought in several Unit Standards for Temporary Traffic Management. Various Industries of course have different requirements and so the Unit Standards are another way of recognising the qualifications of a Traffic Management worker or any other person working in association with or on a worksite covered by Temporary Traffic Management.
NZQA 5627 is a unit standard for people who may be appointed, subject to guidance and monitoring by a Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS), to supervise the establishment, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic management (TTM) for low volume and Level 1 roads.
People credited with NZQA 5628 are able to: carry out planning and design for temporary traffic management (TTM) on low volume and/or Level 1 road/s; carry out on-site checks of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and make changes; supervise the implementation of TTM; carry out a formal audit of TTM for a site; supervise the maintenance of TTM; and supervise the removal of TTM.
NZQA 5629 is for people working as part of a team, assisting with temporary traffic management (TTM) site closure for Level 2 and 3 roads. People credited with this unit standard are able to work safely as part of a team during TTM closure for Level 2 and/or 3 road/s, and enter and exit the site safely.
NZQA 5631 is for specialists who are responsible for planning and installing portable traffic signals for temporary traffic management. People credited with this unit standard are able to: plan layout for portable traffic signals; and install, calibrate, and remove portable traffic signals.
NZQA 20877 is for people who are required to carry out work and conduct themselves safely at any site where temporary traffic management (TTM) is established, whether or not they are involved in traffic management duties. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of working safely at sites under TTM.
NZQA 20878 is for people working under the supervision of a Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) or an appointed Traffic Controller, for low volume and Level 1 roads. People credited with this unit standard are, under supervision, able to help establish and maintain temporary traffic management (TTM) equipment, and control traffic manually in a site laid out according to Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (CoPTTM).
